5 Tips to Repair Bad Credit

There are a lot of simple ways to repair bad credit. Everyone has at least a few negative items on their credit reports. It's really difficult not to have! Life happens to all of us and for most people; their credit ratings suffer here and there. Don't stress out too much about it. Just as your credit score can be damaged easily, it can also be repaired. Here are 5 tips that you can use to repair your bad credit starting today:

Tip #1: Know what you're dealing with. You have the right to request a free report of your credit once every year from each of the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. If you request one from each every 4 months, then you will always have fresh and accurate information about your credit score. If you are not aware of negative items on your credit reports, then you cannot do anything about them, right?

Tip #2: Dispute negative items on your credit report. Federal laws dictate that if a negative item on your credit report cannot be or is not verified within 30 to 45 days of being disputed by you, then that item must be stricken from your credit report. If for any reason in the chain of verification the process fails to be completed, then you can insist that it be removed immediately. Roughly 40% of all disputes are not verified!

Tip #3: If you have credit cards that are active, then you need to make a few sacrifices to pay them down or off. The second most important variable for computing your credit score is how much of your available credit is being used. If you max out your credit cards and then just pay the interest every month - even if it's always on time - it reflects negatively on your credit report. Keep your credit cards at about 30% of their limits and pay the balances due off in full every month. That is a great way to repair bad credit scores.

Tip #4: Make your credit card, loan, mortgage, utility bill and every other payment on time, every time! This is the most important variable in the algorithm that calculates your credit score. The way that you can do this is to not extend yourself further than you are absolutely sure that you can pay. A single late payment can drop your credit report score by up to 100 points! That seem incredible, but it's true. The fact is that it is easy to get a negative mark against you in the society that is so dictated by credit scores. Be timely with your payments to repair bad credit scores!

Tip #5: Live below your means. If you don't have the money for it, don't buy it. It's not smart to get in debt for things like big screen televisions. Save up the money, then buy it.

To repair your bad credit can definitely enhance your ability to live the lifestyle that you desire. You have to be proactive, patient and have a good plan. Protect your credit rating. It is one of the most important aspects of survival in a capitalistic society like the US. Begin today to repair your bad credit!
